KEYS High School

KEYS offers the opportunity for “at-risk” students to complete required coursework needed for high school graduation. Individualized instruction and a quality, caring staff are the keynotes to this approach.

Challenging Circumstances

Many young people applying to KEYS are dealing with challenges such as homelessness, anxiety issues, past mental or physical abuse, limited parental involvement or support, teenage pregnancy, or are already raising a young child. KEYS is the last opportunity to get a high school diploma and find a successful path.

The KEYS High School staff provides individualized methods of instruction, a caring and nurturing environment, positive feedback, and establish momentum and individual confidence to help the young KEYS graduate a path to a vocational or college transition. A Scholarship program is established to create a bridge to next level success.

The Goals of KEYS is to get as many KEYS graduates into a successful life path through building confidence, helping graduates attain a vocational or college degree and attain a better life as an adult…a better life than they grew up with.

HEB ISD SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The school district developed a summer reading program in the summer of 2016 to increase reading results with all children including “at-risk” children in their district.

  • HEB ISD has an annual enrollment of approximately 23,000 students.

  • 18% of families speak a language other than English in the home, with over eighty (80) languages spoken by HEB ISD students and their families.

  • 17 of 20 elementary schools are Title 1 Schools (families making below the federally-defined poverty level).

  • 42% of elementary students are identified as “at-risk.”

  • HEB ISD partnered with the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, to create a consolidated summer reading program.

  • City public libraries have created outreach programs in these neighborhoods, utilizing elementary school campus libraries and neighborhood community centers.
