HEB ISD SUMMER READING PROGRAM
The school district developed a summer reading program in the summer of 2016 to increase reading results with all children including “at-risk” children in their district.
HEB ISD has an annual enrollment of approximately 23,000 students.
18% of families speak a language other than English in the home, with over eighty (80) languages spoken by HEB ISD students and their families.
17 of 20 elementary schools are Title 1 Schools (families making below the federally-defined poverty level).
42% of elementary students are identified as “at-risk.”
HEB ISD partnered with the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, to create a consolidated summer reading program.
City public libraries have created outreach programs in these neighborhoods, utilizing elementary school campus libraries and neighborhood community centers.
